Autonomous Database

Oracle recently launched Oracle Autonomous DataWarehouse Cloud based on Oracle 18c ,Autonomous Framework and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure .Later Autonomous OLTP will be released.

What does this mean for Oracle DBA…like i have posted on my previous blog on the future of Oracle DBA ..

https://manojshringarpure.wordpress.com/2014/05/28/the-future-of-oracle-dba/

Oracle DBA will need to adapt and change as Enterprise moves to Cloud Computing and AI in every area.

Why Autonomous , Customers are increasing pressure to do more with less staff and also it is not possible for all customers to have experienced Database Administrators to fine-tune and run the operations.

First with increasing Cyber-Attacks especially the Equifax attack. There is more need to create Lock-Down configuration to protect databases from breaches with it being monitored using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence . This takes out any chances of Human Error , missed configuration , poor security monitoring etc. To keep one’s database upto date with the latest security is also a challenge which Autonomous Database will do on its own with almost zero downtime.

Second a lot of Data is stored within Databases that needs to be taken out for analysis , with Autonomous Database with in-built Machine learning with SQL Notebooks ,one can analyze vast amounts of Data within the database and greater processing speed using the power of Exadata Cloud as the backend for Autonomous Database.Companies looking at mining their data for building new business will benefit immensely with this technology.

So , is what is next for Oracle DBA , while still there is time for Autonomous to replace all databases .Many legacy Applications will run on older releases of Oracle Database . The future is uncertain !!!.
